Filing can be fun!
Got you there!
It is no fun for most people, but for those of us with OCD tendencies, there is a real element of satisfaction with it.
Sadly (or not, depending on your point of view), my three children have inherited the same tendency – it is very strong in my side of the family. Yesterday my daughter came home with a filing box for greeting cards…what? That was my first thought too, until we looked int the cupboard at numerous bags full of purchases cards – all over the place and we had no idea what was in there.
They are now all in the box filed by category and if someone has a new baby, we can immediately find an appropriate card.
That is how your filing should work; you are looking for, say, your car registration and insurance documents – you should be able to locate it immediately.
There are many ways of setting up your system and colours can be your friend here to get you organised. It makes everything less boring and you can set up colours that represent certain categories to help you Get Sorted. If you want some help in setting up the right system for your small business situation, then feel free to give me a call or email me
Networking is important…
Do you sometimes wonder whether you are wasting your time going to Breakfast Events, After Five Business Meetings, BNI Chapters and the like?
I often think that I am just going for the company (I am – it can be a lonely business being a sole operator working from home) or whether there will be some genuine connections made.
One day though, I had a phone call out of the blue from someone who came and visited our BNI Chapter about eight months before. I resigned from BNI (Business Networking International for anyone who doesn’t know – a great concept and certainly gave me some excellent connections, and hopefully I was able to bring them some excellent connections) earlier this year, but this was someone that had heard me speak many months prior and kept it in the back of his mind that I was the sort of person he needed.
I ended up working for him for more than a year until my personal circumstances meant that I had to find someone else to help him. It was an enjoyable working relationship and gave me an insight into an industry that I had never thought about.
So, yes, networking is very important!
